Hello,

I am working in the US on H1B visa and my US GC is in the I140 stage
now. I will be applying for I485 next month.

Meanwhile, I have also received a canadian IMMIGRANT visa and I have to
go there for a few days to get a CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCE card. I
do not intend to settle in canada though.

I was wondering whether obtaining the canadian permanent residence card
will cause any problems in the processing of my US I140 and I485 ?

Thanks in advance

Being a Canadian permanent residence will not effect your GC process here in the US. But after you get US green card and you already have canadian permanent resudency, it is illegal to have permanent residency of two countries at the same time. You then will have to give up your one country's residency. You are NOT allowed to have permanent residency of two countries.

Is there any pointer stating having PR of other country along
with the US's is illegal ?
It does not seem to make sense. You might be confused for
dual citizenship.

Will applying for a canadian permanent residency affect US GC processing?

Hi,
Do you think applying for Canadian Immigration can cause any harm on US GC process?
I’m very anxious with this issue because on this Year I applied for Canadian GC and my US GC process is pending from sep 04 for name check.

Please reply.
Thank you.
