Will employers IN MY FIELD OF STUDY still be picky after I get my USC?

I'm studying for a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice right now.
In your opinion, would government institutions such as state prison, jail, police department, fbi, tsa, etc etc, or even private investigation companies be more likely to pursue other candidates other than me?

I have no criminal record but I was once an illegal immigration in this country for many years. I have about 2 years to go to receive my degree and about 3 years until I can apply for my citizenship so I would not be able to pursue careers in my field right away, but then it also means that when I do receive my USC, I would be looking for a job very soon after. I understand that these places do a very thorough background check and I don't know if they will even consider someone who has gone from an illegal immigrant to a naturalized USC who wants to become a police officer or whatnot in a matter of about 5 years all together.

When I was undocumented, I used to think that getting my residency will open all opportunities (I'm GC holder now) but now it seems I need a USC, especially for being in this field of career... maybe a stupid move? but anyways, now that I'm not too far away from getting my USC, I'm starting to wonder if simply having a citizenship may not be good enough for some of the employers.

IMO, you will be inconvenienced very little (if at all) because of the fact that you are a naturalised citizen and because of your past. However, your chosen field of study does not really make it easier for you.

Well first of all its a crime in this country to discriminate someone on the basis of national origin. if you are a usc, you are american, and no one, even the government has a right to reject your application based solely on being a naturalized citizen. However, fbi and cia do run a thorough background on you and it may, which is not very likely be rejected because you were once a visa overstay. It will certainly not ban you from being a police officer. In addition, if you fluently speak your native language, cia may employ you just because you have that ability. It must be one of the languages that are in demand right now. Don't worry about it too much. Good luck and respect to you.
