Will a selected entry for DV2006 affect my J1 application?

Hi there,

In November last year, I entered into the DV Lottery 2006 and received an official letter from KCC stating that I have been selected. As fantastic as it is to have been successful with my entry - I am now in quite a tricky situation because I am actually in the process of applying for a J1 visa which is needed for a U.S based teaching position that I am due to start next month.

Does anyone know if I am still able to follow through with this J1 application? Being selected for the DV Lottery has really taken me by surprise and I now I don't know if I will even be able to get a J1 visa now - because of it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

if you apply for J-1 visa and go for the interview before you send your filled applications for DV lottery - it won't affect your chances.

If you decide to get J-1 visa and enter the US on it, it may have home residency requirement, which means that you won't be able to immigrate for two years, which means that you forfeit your DV visa.

Hi Lucy,

Thank you for that. As far as I know, my J1 visa will not have a 2 year home residency requirement on it because it is only a summer assignment that can be repeated each year.

My J1 visa interview is on the 21st of June and no, I won't have filed for my greencard by then because that cannot be done until October. My summer assignment would have long finished by the time I can send my greencard papers.

Just one query left, at my interview - will I be required to tell them about my selection for the DV Lottery?

dv lottery and J1 visa?can anyone help me with this?

I've been in US as an exchange student last year (participation in high school program) so I graduated from high school. after I finished my program I came back home on time and then applied for a dv lottery(2006)

so if I win the green card would that be a problem to get an immigrant visa(green card) since I've been on J1 status. this is what it says on my visa:

BEARER IS NOT SUBJECT TO SECTION 212(E)
TWO YEAR RULE DOES NOT APPLY.

thanks a lot guys, whoever could answer my question...

The applications for DV immigrant visas through consular processing can be sent at any time. The earlier, the better. You cannot send them until October and until your number becomes current ONLY if you are doing adjustment of status from within the States. Hurry up and send your applications to KCC!

Work and Travel program does not carry the two year sentence.

ok, here's another question, if you don't mind, I would like to get your comments?

all right, I've been on J-1 status(not subject to section 212(e) etc etc,
but while I was in US I got accepted in college, the college issued me an I-20 form, then after I came back home, I went over to the embassy to apply for F-1 visa(student visa), and I got refused on that, so I said that I just want to go for my studies (which was the truth) but I still got denied on my F-1 visa.
so I win the green card, and go over to the embassy again would they probably ask why do I wanna get a green card now, since last time I said that I want to go for my studies?

can my answer be like for example: since I was refused on my F-1 visa, then I applied for dv lottery and I won, and now I would like to go back to US and go to college, and the green card would be more helpful for me and I would have more benefits since I would pay for my studies 50 percent cheaper as a resident.

thank you
