Wife with H4 needs immediate insurance coverage

Hi All,

My wife just got her H4 and I wanted to include her into my company's health insurance (Blue Cross Blueshield), but I was told by my company that she needs to show some kind of identification like Social Security card in order to Blue Shield to cover her, but I know H4 is not eligible to apply for a Social Security Card, so is there any "legal identification" my wife can show in order to get insurance coverage?

Please advise. My wife needs some kind of medical attentions, so I am kind of worried here! :(

It seems that the insurance company would be the best place to ask this qusetion. They should know what they will accept.

Find out with BCBS is STATE-ID is acceptable as identification.
Iam sure it does.
Then go to Drivers licence office to get one for yours wife..Make sure you carry Passport+H4+I94.
Now a days everybody asking for valid documents..

Insurance coverage for H-4

You must get a letter from the company stating that she needs a social security number in order to be eligible for health insurance. She must take this letter, her H-4 Approval notice, her I-94, your marriage certificate, your H-1 approval notice and apply for a social security number at your local Social Security Administration Office.
 
May be this SSN is a new requirement or the person whom you talked is just trying to delay things. Please talk to someone higher-up. I got my wife's insurance effective from the day she landed here (without any papers) and also there are many of my friends whose wife have no SSN but there was no problem with insurance. Because the insurance is in your name name there should not be any need for SSN

Finally the insurance agent said he can take my wife's H4 approval notice and marriage cert, and she can be in the system pretty soon.

I was told by my lawyer that my wife can get a IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, that way, she can use it for insurance, bank accounts...etc replacing the urgent need for a SSN

However, I was told is hard for her to get SSN and Driving license as H4, anyone has any suggestions and experience? Please advise.
