Wife on H1 and without a job, H1 to H4 conversion?

I am on H1-B visa and got my 1-140 cleared this year. We applied for H1-B visa for my wife last year and got her H1, she didn't get a job till now and we are still looking for a job for her. My wife entered in US last time on H4 visa which is expired now, and same is my visa. My employer is filling for my H1 extension because my H1 is getting expired in next 5,6 months. Would it be a good idea to file for my wife's H1 to H4 transfer through my employer when they file for my H1 extension? Or are there any other better option(s) we can do in my case?

She can file her H1 to H4 change of status with your H1(she has to sign form I-539 and pay the COS fee). USCIS may deny her COS as she is not on valid H1 status. other option is to go out of US and get H4 visa stamp based on your H1 status.
