Wife filing for Citizenship

Hi,

My wife became the permanent resident on 08/16/2002. I read the online resources and found out that she can file for citizenship in May 2007 (after 4 years and 9 months).

But there is small problem. She was living in California for the past 4 years and 9 months and she recently moved to Houston, TEXAS. I read the online resources and it says that if you are filing after 4 years and 9 months then you should be resident of that state for atleast 3 months. But she just came to Houston on March 27th 2007. Can she still file for her citizenship after 4 years and 9 months (In May 2007).

Also how would anyone know if she is living in Texas for 3 months. Should I get her a Texas ID or a Driver License. She already has driver license of California?

Once, she file for her citizenship from Texas how long does it take to approve?

she needs to reside in TX for three months before she can file in TX. A State ID would be a good proof of residency.

Thanks

Thanks for the fast reply!

That kinda sucks now she has to wait for 3 more months! Can you also tell me that how much time it takes for the citizenship approval after she files it.

Thanks,

You'll get a better idea of timelines over in the Citizenship forum, however as a very rough guide, it can take anywhere from 4 months to 1 year or more. The biggest factors are which service center/district office jurisdiction you fall under, and whether your name gets stuck in the FBI namecheck blackhole.

By the way, you can apply 90 days early, not 3 months - USCIS gets very picky about those few extra days and will bounce applications without remorse. Of course this point may be moot now that your wife needs to wait to gain residency in her new district...

Also, I'd note that your wife will be required to show her state issued id (drivers license) at the interview to prove her residency, so this isn't something you can easily work around. Take the hit now and it'll make the process smoother during the application process.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot for all your help. Yes, my wife applied for the state ID + texas driver license. It will be coming in few days. Then on July 10th 2007 she will apply for the citizenship.
