Why Email noticed?

Hi All,
I've read lots of approval posts, they said they get the notice by email. But I didn't remember that I tell my email to USCIS or not, and my email box has lots of garbage emails, I'm afraid I would delete some important email from USCIS by accident.
Is it very important to get the email notice, or USCIS will also send a letter and update website?

Hai, have you recently been to USCIS status website.
There you can created a profile and give your e-mail address and USCIS will send you e-mail whenever there is any status update.
In your profile, you can give upto 100 SRCs numbers.

so instead of checking the status as often, instead people receive e-mails.
