Why do I need immigrant visa

On March 13 my I-485 got approved.After getting approved I have seen most of the people
went for immigrant visa.

1. My question is why do I need an immigrant visa ?
2. Do I need to get immigrant visa to get my green card ?

Well yes and no. You have to take your approval notice to your local INS office to get your passport stamped. Only when your passport is stamped your are considered permanent US resident. Also, you will be required to fill out another form and give fingerprints for your green card. If you don\'t go to your local INS office. YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR GREEN CARD IN THE MAIL.
