Hi all,

I am a new GC holder. Was wondering what people's experiences are in terms of who (e.g., Social Security Administration, their employer, etc.) they notified after adjustment of status to make sure that all official records are current. Who needs to know this new status?

Thanks much,

1. Get a new SS card (same number) without the restrictions
2. Inform employer
3. Next time you go to DMV take your GC . Depends on state.

I note your signature shows that eligibility for Citizenship is after 3 years for your case. Is that so?

4 yrs or 5 yrs?

Hi,

Is not it 5 years from start of PR status to apply for citizenship?

THanks,

It's 5 years (for asylees anyway...it's different for GC holders who got it through marriage), but like JoeF said, for asylees, the date of official PR status is backdated one year from when I-489 is approved. So...for me, even though I was approved January 2006, my official PR status begins January 2005. That means my 5 years is in January 2010. I can of course begin the process of naturalization 90 days before this, so around October 2009. Hope that makes sense.
