simple. black guy from germany= 'afro american'
do i agree that it's correct? no
is that what the uscis is aiming for? yes.
Totally agree. That is why on my form I crossed out the Other..... and penciled in South Asian. After all, the form is asking me which race I think I belong to.
Race is a unscientific concept based purely on pheotype or external appearances and has no genotype (DNA based) validity. In fact thee are more tra race genetic differences than between races(as they are generally perceived).
Race is based on external appearance, not really on country of oirgin. My own country on India is really multiracial, with caucasian (some anglo indians, arguably Kashmiri), south asian(a large majority), negroid ( some indegenous tribes, siddhis's who were brought in by portuguese in the 1600s), mongoloid(north eastern india, Chinese settled in the counry for several genrations) people inhabiting the country. Most large countries similarly have people with differing phenotypes.
c'mon camp12 ... while we are all anxiously awaiting our immigration cases to proceed, aren't we allowed to bond a little in friendly debate ?
"Part 5" of the N400
E. Race (Select one or more.)
-White
-Asian
-Black or African
-American Indian or Alaskan Native
-Native Hawaiian or
-Other Pacific Islander
I am from North India.
Which race should I select?
technically, I am not Asian (Chinese, Japaneses ,etc)
I am thinking of selecting the two since my Aryan ancestors came from the German region (Caspian sea)
-White
-Asian
Am I right? no? what is the right choice?
As per Genetic Scientists all of us originated Africa. We cannot claim to be Africans right ? If you are Indian (whichever part you are from) normal practice is to mention as Asian/Pacific Islander.
