Which line?

Most of the time they're not even that strict about it. Last time I entered the USA I was in a seemingly endless visitors queue, and a friendly assistant escorted me to the USC/residents line, where I cleared immigration. OK, don't do this unless you're told to do so, but usually there are assistants who can advise you about where to queue. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Congrats on winning by the way, and good luck with your new life that's about to commence!

When you first enter US with your immigrant visa, you are NOT a resident yet. As has already been stated, it seems to depend on the airport. I entered at Washington Dulles Airport, and I was told that I had to stand in the visitor's lane (I even asked two of the assistants but they didn't really have a clue what an immigrant visa is).

@abeku: Don't blame Tazmania, you're the one who started everything!

Apology

In the interest of the continuityof this forum,I do apologise for conveying the wrong thoughts and for provoking any unwanted arguments. My original comment was not directed towards anyone in particular neither was it meant to cast any insinuations.I do hereby apologise to everyone who feels offended.Assanissi i personally apologise for bringing your much cherished thread to disrepute and promise that any future threads will be respected accordingly. In relation to your question however, i will like to say that since there is divergent opinions as to which queue to join, it will be a good idea to speak to an assistant as soon as you get to the Imigration Check Point.I'm sure they will be very happy to direct you.Congratulations again for a safe interview and may the LORD fulfill your dreams tenfold as you enter the US os A.

Thanks.

Good stuff! I was begining to think you were a bit of a nut job,but I guess people just took you up wrong. By the way what stage is your dv at?

Hi every one ..
Which line to take .. it's an interesting question.
But may I ask one more ..
After you take the line (any line) what happen next ..
Would any one please lighten me with his experiences in the POE

What kind of questions they are going to ask you about? How long does it take to finish all the procedures? Does your sponsor need to pick you at the airport?

I will appreciate this very much.
Thank you in advance ..

Hi everybody!
I had my interview in Frankfurt, Germany on 4/11 and my passport and documents in the mail on 4/17. I entered the US through Philadelphia airport on 4/18. I have been living in the US for almost 4 years on F1 and OPT up until now.

1. The officer at the consulate general told me to proceed to "us citizens/ residents" upon arrival. However, at the airport, after staff consulted an immigration officer, I was redirected to "visitors". There was no "new immigrants" line apparent at this time. You should simply ask for advice, they will help you out. It is not a matter of concern in my opinion.

2. The immigration officer reviewed my paperwork, customs declaration and passport, then put everything in a red folder and sent me to "secondary inspection". I had also filled out the white form to enter with a visa [as I thought it is an immigrant visa..], but he told me I would not need this anymore. I gave away the red folder at the secondary inspection and waited for about 20 min with other people [GC, advanced parole, visa issues...]. I was then called by one of the officers who filled out a form I never saw before [guess why..]. He took two real fingerprints and two signatures on it, stamped the visa in the passport with the regular admission stamp, marked it "DV-1" and sent me on my way. No questions asked, everything took 10 minutes. Again, I have been living in the US for quite some time, but it still gives you an idea about the procedure.

3. In my opinion, there is no reason for a sponsor pickup, as this would be only after immigration, so the decision to let you in has already been made. However, I deliberately entered on a weekday, so that in case of any unpredictable trouble, I could contact my employer or an immigration lawyer more easily than during the weekend.

Good luck to all DV-2009 and everyone who still has to wait or cross the border. Congratulations to all of you, who made it as I did. Thanks to the forum for all the valuable information! :)
