Where can we find Alien number in the new CP process?

I got my GC approved by consular processing and came to USA on 7th Sept.



We went to the SSA office to remove the work restriction from my SSN card and assign new SSN to my wife.



But the officer told that there is no Alien number/ I-94 number on our Visa/Passports that they could use to verify our data. They asked us to contact local INS office for issuing the Alien number.



What is this Alien number? We asked them to use the number from our I-551 visa but that did not worked.

What shall we do?

This is pretty normal. You entered on 7th Sept. and it is only 3 days now.
It generally takes about a week or 10 days for the information from INS to
reach the SSA database.

Give it a week and try again.
