Hi,

I need this small information. Is it possible to take/book a VISA interview appointment date if I have the receipt number of my H1 B petition filing. My employer has filed the H1 on the first day i.e April 3rd and now I have a reciept number. All I want to know is whether I can block my visa appointment date with just having this number through the VFS site or should I wait untill my H1 is approved by the USCIS?

Please let me know asap. Dates are running out.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Paddy

Wait untill you get approval. You will also need to enter visa expiration dates before taking apointment, so wait for approval and don't take chances when H1 is in process.

Not a legal advice, just my suggestion.

But is it not better to take a VISA date and open my application and then enter the details that I have currently and then save and close the same. Once my approval comes then I can edit the same doc and enter the VISA expiry dates. This will enable me in getting an earlier date.

Please let me know if there are any problems in this process.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Regards,
Paddy

hmmm... I am not really sure about this, when I did my stamping in January they asked for visa expiration date just to open my application, I am not sure if this has changed by now. I would suggest you to wait but you can read through the website and see if you can find any information.

you can get the visa exp. date from lawyer. Lawyer did mention the start date & exp date while applying the renewal.

The VFS website just says that the I-797 form and DD number is needed to block the date. I have the 797 form which does not have the expiry dates but just the EAC number. Anyways I will give it a try, but have to take some amount of risk.

Thanks for all your comments on this. Kindly keep me posted through this thread on any news related to this.

Thanks and Regards,
Paddy

I thought this information would be helpful for many ppl.

You need not wait for the approval of the H1 petition to take the VISA appointment date. All that you need is the EAC number and the DD number. Some information needed while filling the DS 156 and DS 157 form may not be known during the begining stages. Some of them are as below
1. Contact Person
Solution: Enter the employers Name
2. Address of Stay
Solution: Ask the employer if he can provide, if not enter the company address.

Later when you know the details you can edit the same applications and enter the correct information and resubmit the form.

So all the people who have their EAC number and their DD activated can start booking the dates for the VISA interview. The edit option of the forms close at 5 PM before the interview day and the rescheduling can be done upto interview date minus 2 business days.

Hope this piece of information helps.

PS: This is not a legal advice.

Paddy
