When to Start sending address Changes?

Hi

I would like to know when should we start sending address changes. I havent heard of AR-11 form till I started GC process. Before That I have changed many places, moved every where. Should I have to file an address change even I have not started my GC process?

Yes, you should file AR-11 even if you don't have GC process going on?

AR-11 should be filed by all the immigrants including GC holders.

AR-11 Mandatory

The AR-11 thing was re-started roughly 6-12 after Sep 11th 2001.
It used exist before, about 20 years ago and not mandatory at that time. But, it's mandatory now, after Sep 11th. Everyone must file except for US citizens.

So, if you have not filed, FILE IT NOW ! Better LATE than NEVER...

thanks,

AR-11 is your legal resposnsability to notify USCIS as a non-citizen when you move. AR-11 will not update the addess on any pending cases.

You still need to notify them by fax and by phone seperately so that they update your pendig cases.

jambalakadi,
AR-11 should be filed by everybody who is a non-citizen. Even if you move from from one apt to another in the same apt complex, you should submit AR-11.
If there is a pending application with USCIS and you intend to receive the approval at the correct address you may submit address change to USCIS.

And the address change is to be filed using AR11 within 10 days of a move. But anyways send it even if 10 days have passed. Also, mail it certified with a return receipt - it helps to keep proof that you've done your part.

Filing an AR11 does not change your address on your pending 485 (or any other application). You'll have to write or call NSC to fix that.

I just moved few days back. I called USCIS and provided a change of address for my 485 application. This is required if you have any pending immigration benefit - you need your application number and A# if available. In addition you are also legally required to file an AR-11. Change of address notification has always existed not after 9/11 as someone has indicated. It became important after 9/11 for obvious reasons. Prior to 1980 all aliens were reuqired to notify their current address every year and was subsequently changed to only when there was a change of address. I had also moved a number of times prioir to recent move and was unaware of this requirement. At the time I started my GC process, my attorney asked me to file AR-11 immediately with just the current address and most recent past address.

Jamba,
Also it's better to make a copy of completed AR-11 form for you(if u r married, file seperate AR-11 for your wife too) and send it through certified USPS mail.

Thank you very much guys. I can feel the sense of urgency now. I will do it today itself. Thanks a lot for all your input. I have just sent paperwork for filing I-485

thanks
