When to apply for SSN for AOS kids?

I know my wife can apply for a SSN as soon as she has her EAD. But what about her kids?
They're both under 12, and we don't need it for work , but I would like to claim them as dependents for income tax ASAP, and for that they need SSN.

You don't need an SSN to claim them as dependents, you can do so with an ITIN.
