When Should I ask from my Employer about the process towards GC

Why you have not asked to file LC (first step of GC) till date?Hi,
My first 3 years on H1B expires sometime in October of 2011. I am just wondering when should I ask about the GC process from my Employer. Should I wait till when its closer to the renewal or should I ask now.

GC is for Future Job after GC gets approved. H1 is for present job. Ask employer to file LC for you so that your GC process gets started immediately.
For H1 extension your employer can file H1 extension 6 months advance of your I-94 expiry date OR Extension must reach USCIS before your I-94 gets expired.

It is not required that an employer file for a GC for you; it is his choice, and he must prove that there are no willing and qualified USCs desiring your job.
Thanks Ginnu.. Please correct me if I'm wrong.. Since I've been working little over two years they can't use the same Advertisement they put two years ago for MY LC right. So they gonna have to put the Job opening again on the paper... And also the process for GC. is it same for Both Private and State (University Job).. Thanks

------- For H1 they need LCA for GC it is LC. if they gave advertisement for LC then why they did not use the advertisement for your LC? why they did not file your LC (first step of GC). ask comany HR or Employer .

Poster has not asked if Employer must file GC or not file GC. He/She just asked a simple question if He/she should request Employer now or later to to file GC.It is not required that an employer file for a GC for you; it is his choice, and he must prove that there are no willing and qualified USCs desiring your job.
