when out of US on vacation, what if 485 approves? and how do we enter ?

hi all
applied 485. my dependents(on h4) wants to go to india for 3-4 months,
while they are out of US and 485 approved:
1. what is exact procedure to get in US? just come here and get the stamping
or
2. do we need to something at POE? is there any kind of issues?
3. do they need to come immediately here for stamping?
4. continue to that question what if primary applicant is out of US and
gets approved?

any useful links to this subject?
has anyone gone through same before? please explain.

My lawyer told me

Just show the AP at POE, and do not volunteer the information that your I-485 has been approved. My wife did that last December with
excellent results. We got our passports stamped next week.

AP is definitely reqd if you are leaving US and 485 is pending,
when you cmoe back, do what "My lawyer told me" has said.

FYI . I havent done this personally.
 
About travel document

Hi all
My I-485 is pending, I filed it on July 12th 2001. After I got my recipt letter, I applied for Travel Document and got approved in December. The problem is before I applied for I-485 I was already out of F-1 status. Now I m affraid of going to my country because I have heard that if you are out of status for more than 160 days prior to apply I-485 and you go to outside of the USA you will be abandoned of your Green Card application or you can not come back to USA. Guys plz help me out if there is any posibility to visit my country.
