When I should start using my EAD?

I received my both my AP and first EAD but my current work visa(TN since I am Canadian) is still valid till July 2008. Could I ask my employer to use my EAD for I9 purpose while I am still on my I94 which was issues based on my TN visa? or I need to leave the country and after entering to the country and stamping my AP and having new I94 I could use my EAD?

No need to leave and re-enter; just fill out a new I-9.
