When I can apply for citizenship ???

I have received my green card 3 years ago (derived from pol. asylum). The INS was 'kind' enough to post the date 1 year in the past for 4 years lost (2/21/02 instead of 2/21/01).
My question is do I have to wait until I reach 5 years as permanent resident to apply for citizenship (2/21/06) or I can apply earlier due to fact that it was their mistake not mine?
Or this is just wishful thinking...

What INS mistake are you talking about?

Here you go

Hi Sojkatica,
Well, first of all, it wasn't a mistake that your green card was backdated one year. All asylees get their green cards back dated by a year when they get it. Technically, you can apply for citizenship after 4 years and nine months after the date mentioned on your green card. So for asylees the wait is 3 years and 9 months after they get their card since their card is backdated one year. So the answer to your question is that you can go ahead and apply for your citizenship any day after 11/21/05.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
