when does a visa number is allotted to an I-485

Does any one have an idea when a visa number is allotted to an I-485. Is it when the case is opened for processing or at the time of approval.

Since i had a query on my I-485 in dec 2004 and nothing happened after replying to it also. So i was wondering whether a visa number is alloted to my case or not.

Visa number is assigned when your case is adjudicated. In other words, when the officer is ready to approve your case, he/she will first check if there is a visa number available at the moment.

I see your signatue you had 2 RFEs for I-485 on 11/27 and 12/28. What were those RFEs for?
