Please tell us when did u enter USA ? Please ignore other thread on the same topic. Initially I thought negligible or no one before 99 but I am shocked to know that 57% of respondant were before 98.Hence I am changing the option and kindly vote again.If you feel OK can say your brief story why u did not or could not filed earlier.It will give us good idea to newbees.Please vote again

Got GC after 5 years of rigorous punishment outside tihar jail.

yes I did get on 5th JUne 2007

Yes I did get on june 2007 PD 2002 May. I came on 98 on B1 visa.Got my H1B in 2000.Changed my emplyer then,spent 6 months with new employer and given the paper for GC.But Lawyer took six months , yes 6 months to file the labor.I had long fights with her and she was wife of my employer's business partner.Finally after lobour done, I had a nasty fight with my lawyer and could manage to kick her big and rigid butt and change the lawyer.Finally my labour got file on 23 rd may 2002 .

I entered US in 07/1999. First filed GC in 2001 but after 3 long years of wait it got cancelled as my company sold the business to some other company. Then reapplied in 2004 using sub-labor. Still waiting for approval.
 
Unfortunate

More and more people are from 1999.Come on folks ,tell the world ur side of story.Why it took so long to get the green.Lawyer,employer,namecheck,Labour anything could be.Let us know how the system has been made so that people take some long time before get their GC.The whole system has been made to delay to cater the need of business.If they want to fix this broken system, they will fix it overnight.No new bill,law,act is required. We have just seen the july bulletin how the visa number becomes suddenly current in the middle of the year and becomes Feb 98 at the begining of the year.

Well I came in 1999 and my GC process started in June 2001.Here are the sequence of events
1) EB2 LC process started in June 2001. Lawyer sat on it for few months and filed LC sometime in FEB 2002. With the backlog talk looming back then, my LC went to Philly backlog center and finally got approval in Feb 2006 ( 4 years)

2) I had to fight to with employer to file my I-140. After taking 20% paycut ( i have been working with the same employer since i arrived here), my lawyer just filed I-140 in June 2006 (eventhough i was eligible to go concurrent filing i.e PD were current). Luckily I-140 got approved within 15 days.

3) Finally my I-485 was filied on July 2006 and waiting......
 
Are you working for consulting company ? or some one ealse..?

How can it be possible to cut the pay ?. Just curious... to know how employers behave..
 
i know lot of people who came in 98/99 still suffering for GC like me
my case is different, had lot of pains go through
at last filed my 2nd 485 in 2006 and stuck in name check
my 1st 485 got denied due to employer fraud
 
95/96

I came here in 1995, spouse in 1996, long on F-1 for doctoral degree. Went through the SEVIS change and like. Then I got a second master in a related field. By that time, we had realized it would be very difficult to go back to the home country, hence started the GC process right after each of us got a job (either one could be primary, it was just that I got a job a few months earlier than she).
 
Another 1999 arrival here. Started the GC process in late 2002.

When I first came I didn't have any intention of applying for a green card. The plan was to work for a few years, save some money, then go back home or to another country.

Back in 1999, there was no AC21 job portability, and that also turned me off from the starting the process. The thought of one company having that much control over me was too much to tolerate. I would rather change jobs at will and then go home at the end of my H1 than be stuck like that.

But in 2002 I got hired by a Fortune 500 company that offered to start the process right away. And by that time there was the AC21 portability as well as the ability to extend the H1 beyond six years. They had decent benefits and were financially stable unlike the company that did my first H1. I thought about it long and hard and decided to go for it.

I also was here in the early 1990's on an F-1. After graduation I went back to my home country.

Hi could explain, for the benifit of others, about employer fraud that lead to 485 denial?. if you cannot share in a public forum, please send me a private message as i work for a small consulting company who has many issues like tax manipulation etc...

I got good response to vote (67 ) but very few narration of delayed filing for delayed approval. I encourage you all to share ur part, let us see if there is any pattern .

1993 - H1B - speaks for itself
1997 - F1 - master's degree in US - decided to increase my hirebility
2001 - H1B - got a job in the same field, worked on the OPT for about a year
Feb 2006 - I-485 - reason why I did it so late, because I was waiting for PERM to kick it (labor approved in December 05 after audit)
August 2006-AC21 changed jobs (better offer)
still waiting
my kid was 6 y.o. in 1993 - now she is 20....

As per IO NAMECHECK CLEARED,FP CLEARED BUT NO VISA NO. AVALIABLE.
Told me to wait till oct -07 visa when new visa no. become avaliable.
Before me and my lawyer step out of the 6x6 space ,IO informed us that a second file exit with the same name and he'll have to cross verify it whether it's mine or not.
My lawyer informed the IO that my wife file has been seperated and since she is a derative that may be reason for second file with the same name.IO told us if that's the case then I'll have no problem .
BTW , my wife file has been with Houston local office since 17july 2007 still waiting for interview date.

People who came in 98/99/00 started their GC journey after completion of 3 years in h1. Now people are starting their GCs once they land here or before completion of their 1st year with any company
 
I came in 1999 also.
I didn't have any intention to stay. I come here to finish my grad school then the plan is to go home and work in my country.
Dec 2001 I graduated with Master in Acctg.
Mar 2002 I came to Los Angeles.
Apr 2002 I landed my first job and the company offering to apply for greencard. At this time, I don't even know what is greencard. After the lawyer explain then I agreed to apply.
Aug 2004 filed labor cert. This delay is due to lawyer too affraid to go forward without a reference letter from my ex-employer which she didn't need anyway in the end.
