When can I renew my TN/TD status?

Hi,

I am on TN that will be expired in June, 2007. My wife, a Canada landed immigrant with Chinese passport, joined me two months after I got my TN last year. Somehow, maybe the visa officer made a mistake, my wife's TD visa will be valid until August, 2007 (TD's expiration should be the same as TN, right?). Anyway, my questions are:

1) I am going to renew my TN at POE in April. Is it too early for me to renew (around two months before it expires)?
2) If it is ok for me, would be a problem if I have my wife's TD also renewed on the next day (assuming I am able to make an appointment with the US consulate)? TD should always follow TN, right? But will my wife be able to get a new visa stamp with the current one still has 4 months left?

Thanks

So, you mean it is too early for both of us? What about if we both renew ours in June? What is the exact time frame that I can apply for renewing TN/TD, 1 month before the current one expires?

Thanks

yes you can renew it, but you will most likely be questioned as to why when you have an existing valid permit. There is really no timeline regarding when to renew. I have always did it a week before or so.

you could always do a mail in renewal, which you could send in now and it would be valid starting the date your current status expires. In fact it would be so much easier for each of you as your wife would not have to go to the consulate.

Thanks. I am going to renew my TN through I-129. But I will still have my wife's TD renewed at the consulate since I-539 does not extend her visa stamp and she's planning to leave US for some time.
