When can I apply for citizenship?

I got my GC approved through CP around August 20th, 2005 and entered US around September 20th 2005.

Since then I went out of US twice:

1. In November 2009 and returned in about 3 weeks.
2. In June 2010 and returned in less than 2 weeks.

How soon can I apply for Citizenship?

Up to 90 days before the 5 year anniversary of your "resident since date" on your GC.

Is there any particular reason as to why I can apply before 90 days of the due date? Would it be safer to apply right after 5 year period?

That is the law. They let you apply 90 days before.

For my spouse:

In November 2009 and returned in May 2010. Was out of US for one week less than 6 months.

How soon can my spouse apply for Citizenship?

the dates are the same, the only difference being the trips out of country. since this is just one trip, and that is less than 6 months, i would say it is not an issue at all. only warning flag being the trip being very recent which usually indicates people planning to move back before taking up USC. still, not a big deal since this is just one absence and within any warning thresholds.

Please check your GC since dates. If more than 4 years 9 months and 5 days old please go ahead and apply.( extra 5 days to cater for any calculation errors).
