When am I apply for citizenship?

I've been married for a year now (married 11/23/2006), and I just received my conditional Green Card approval letter. I know that I can apply to have the conditions removed 90 days before the conditional GC expires. However, in 2 years time, before my conditional GC expires, I'll have been married for 3 years. Can I apply for citizenship directly then, without getting an permanent GC?

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

You will be eligible to apply for citizenship after three years of being a permanent resident and still married to the same person, not after being married for three years.

That is correct. The requirements are:
- three years marriage to same USC and
- three years continuous residence after being granted LPR and
- 18 months accumulated physical presence.
