Hi,
I have a quick question about something that is not really clear to me. The cut-off number for February is 16,600 and my number is within it. I am in the USA, so what do I do next? Go tho the local INS? And then? If I go tomorrow, will they set up an appointment for me? Any information will help!
Thanks to all!

new questions about CP

Hi everyone!
I would really appreciate if someone could help me. I got the first letter in May informing me that I was among those randomly selected and registered for further consideration in the DV 2005. I filled out the forms that were included in the package, i.e. DSP-122 and DS-230 I & II and sent them together with my photos to KCC.
Than, I got a note from them that they have received my file and that I have to pay $100 fee, which I did immediately. Soon after that, I got a receipt from them and I waited till today when I went to the local INS to see what the next steps are (my number is below the cut-off number for February). There, they gave me a new package containing: I-485, G-325A and I-693. All those documents are supposed to be sent to U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services at Chicago. My questions are:
1. Why didn’t they give me I-131 form
2. Should I enclose other supporting documents from the list: birth certificate, police certificates, marriage certificate, translations, evidence of required education or work experience, evidence of support?
3. Is there a special for for evidence of support?
4. Police certificate: from my home country or from USA? If from USA, where do I get those?
5. Is there anyone who had to send those papers to Chicago?

Thanks a lot! Special HVALA to Milos!

Hi,
Usually I-485 package does not contain I-131 form, but if you need you can
take it from USCIS web page. It is necessary only if you plan to leave US while waiting AOS. You can apply for advance parole (I-131) later...
Basically you should follow instructions for I-485 and probably evidence of support is important. I don't know what you mean saying special evidence: money or a job were always the only evidence in this case. Police
certificate you should take at your local police office and send your papers ASAP! Good luck!

About police certificates, I needed to obtain them from every place I lived more than 6 months in a the last 5 years plus the one from home. You need to contact the county sheriff's records department and for a small fee they give you police clearance.

you do not need US police certificate or any other police certificates when you are doing AOS.

You do need police certificate from all countries where you have lived for more than 6 months after you turned 16 if you are doing CP.

You need to only send forms I-485 and I-765 and I-130. You need to bring all additional evidence to the interview.

Well, I was advised by my lawyer, and I do agree with him, that it's better to have a few extra papers, such as police certificates than risk of being rejected or delayed for such a small thing. We included copies of that in the file and I need to bring the originals to the interview. Oh yeah, he got the advice from one of the people in SF office.

Thank you all! Your answers really helped. However, I do have one more. Speaking abour Medical Exams, the I-485 form says that there are two different cases: 1) Individuals applying for adjustment of status through the INS Service Center and 2)Individuals applying for adjustment of status through the local INS office. The thing is that I went to the local INS and they gave me I-485 form, but they told me to send it to US Citizenship and immigration Services in Chicago.
So, where am I applying?
Thanks a lot!
Maya

If I remember well you submit I-485 to your local office. I'm not 100% sure. Lucy, can you put your input?

The new rules have just come out - look on the first page of the I-485 form. There are several states from which people now have to send their applications to the Chicago mailbox. If your state is on the list, that's where you'd have to send it to. Write in huge letters " DV " on the front of your file, right before cover letter.

new questions

:(Sorry guys! I have two more questions.
1. Lucy mentioned cover letter. What's that?
2. In the Part 2. of I485 form it says: I am applying for an adjustment to permanent resident status because: and then there are a - h options. Am I supposed to circle a) an immigrant petition giving me an immediately available immigrant visa number has been approved. (Attach a copy of the approval notice-or relative, special immigrant juvenile.....) or h) Other basis of eligibility.
Hope I won't bother you again! Needless to say how much I appreciate your promptness!!!

Dv 2005

Hi All,

I am winner in DV 2005 and I have a question. After submission of all the necessary forms sent by the KCC in July 2004, I immediately applied for the police certificate from the local authority as I am not sure how long it takes them to process. In September 2004, I received the certificate. I was just wondering if this is still valid as from the case no., I think my no. will only become current in June 2005.

Anyone comments are welcome. Thanks.
