What will happen to my J1 visa when my AOS files are recieved?
I saw some thread says that F1 visa become voided when I got NOA.
Does that mean that my J1 become invalid and should I quit my internship?

Any comments are appreciated!

Are you becoming a permanent resident or a USC? I'm a little confused by your post and your timeline.

I am sorry to confuse you. I (husband) and my wife are using the same login account.

I (husband) am trying to get Permanent Resident based on my wife's USC.
I am(was?) on J1 status with NO 2 HRR and working as an intern and they pay some.

When USCIS recieved my AOS files, did i become out of j1 Status ?I mean AOS pending status ,not J1?Should I quit this internship now?
I still have 4 months on j1 visa until expiration. And today I got NOAs...

There are ppl here that know a lot more than I do... but here's what I think: you are no longer J-1, now you are AOS. In my case, I was F-1, although I am still actively going to college I am no longer "an international student." And my school canceled my SEVIS account. But since I wasn't working using my F-1, it doensn't make any difference. But I think someone here was doing OPT and they started their process to adjust status, try searching for that thread and that might give you the answer.
In your case, you are working legally, but you don't have a visa such as H1, then you should work with your EAD, not with the J-1. BTW, do you have the 2 year foreign residency requirement?
Maybe I am wrong, but I think you have to wait for your EAD to be able to work, it's not too bad since I presume you already have SSN.
Goo luck :)

Lakelady , thanks for comment.

So you mean that I shouldn't work until I got EAD approval? uhh.I see.

You said taht SEVIS is already canceled . What made it happned?
Did you tell the college that you applied AOS and college canceled it?
If so , I should do the same thing about my J1 SEVIS status.

And I searched but couldnt find any story about OPT who became AOS pending status.I hope someone pointed at the thread.

>do you have the 2 year foreign residency requirement?
No I dont have it. Visa stamp explicitly says that I am NOT subject to 2 year foreign residency requirement.

I guess it's kinda sad that I'm an F1 too (well now pendind AOS) and I don't know what SEVIS is. What is it? Do I need to inform my school?

Clairvoyant,

I am not sure what the difference is between an F1 and a J1 visa but I think you should stop working till you get your EAD. I have an on-campus job and in my case I told my boss about my situation and he said that he will pay me ahead of time (before I filed all the paperwork) and then I can just come to work but won't get paid. Maybe you can get something like this...if possible.

Good luck!

F-1 and J-1 are similar, I used both to go to school in different events, both of them, in order to maintain your status on SEVIS, you need to be full time unless it's your last year and your remaining classes don't add up to be full-time.
For payala: SEVIS (can't rememebr what it stands for) is a system that keeps track of each international student, they major, how many classes they are taking, work authorization, addres... everything is there.
I told the international advisor at my college that I was adjusting status, so she sent a message through SEVIS about my immigration situation right now and she cancelled my F-1 status. You guys should do that too, just in case the USCIS checks on your F-1 or J-1 status. BTW, when you go to the interview you should bring your transcripts or something that proves you weren't out of status.
I am not sure if you can work on campus before your EAD, same thing for J-1. But I believe you might have to wait for the EAD, talk to someone at your school, or whoever processed your J-1.

>TO payala

SEVIS stands for
Student and Exchange Visitor Information System.
All F1 and J1 visitors are registered and managed in this sysytem from Sep.1/2004. You might not be registered if you got F1 visa US before that day. J1 is exchage/internship visa. I worked for IT company as an intern.not went to school.

"International advisor cancelled SEVIS" means that I should do the similar thing. I should call DS NPO to ask that and quit job.Thanks.

clairvoyrant, to be more specific, she told me she would cancel my F-1 status and she would state the reason, which was for adjustment of status. Well, if you like your job, ask them if they'd give you "vacation" and you'd gladly go back once you get your EAD... why don't yuo try that?

Thanks for the concern.
I meant that I would ask "DS organization"(like intern training school) which issued me DS-2019(like I-20) what I should do and If thet say i should quit then I quit. Because working without payroll like volunteering can be also illegal while I don't have EAD.

Either way , they know what to do. I will post after I got the information.
