What to do to activate my GC?

I will be going to US (POE: San Francisco) to activate my GC in the coming month. What is the procedure after I arrive? Everything will be done at the airport immigration? How long will the procedure take?

Anyone knows please advise. Thanks! :)

you have been given a package by the consulate when they approved your application for the gc. you must not open this package. when you arrive at sf, hand over the package to the customs officer. they will process you there and then.

IC. Then how long will the procedure take on the spot?
 
They will tell you that it takes about 4~8 weeks to receive the GC after you entered. But, it normally only takes about 2 weeks or so.
 
We have to bring our invitation during interview, the 3-minutes-interview in the consulate and the activation of my Green Card. After 4 weeks I received my Green Card over.A little hint: The application for the Social Security Card does not work very well, even when you ticked it on the DS-230 form. So I applyed for the SSC directly in Las Vegas and after 1 week I received it.
