I signed up for the DV2014 lottery and won - my case number (Asia) is 2014AS00007XXX. However, I am in the U.S right now with a H1-B visa, and I am not sure how should I move on with the process. Recently I started having problems with my employer and I really don't want to mess up my chances for a GC. I have some questions and I would REALLY appreciate your advice:
1. My understanding is that, since I'm in the US, I can file with either the KCC or the state department. Do you have any recommendations on that? Which route is safer/shorter? Can I file with both of them or would it have negative effect on my process?
2. Roughly, how long should the process take?
3. I understand that there are 125,000 winners but only 50,000 visas. Assuming ~25,000(?) are disqualified that means ~50% chance of getting a GC. Does being in the U.S changes this in any way? Does my case number (low 7000s) helps in any way?
I'm honestly pretty nervous regarding all this and I would really appreciate any help.
