My interview is less than three weeks away. The following are what I plan to bring for the interview

1. Interview Letter
2. Green card
3. Passport
4. Traffic citation report or proof that pay the tickets
5. 4 identical passport size photos
6. Driver license
7. Marriage certificate although the green card is based on employment
8. Social security card
9. My most recent paystub for my employment status
10. Utility bill to prove my residence
11. Copy of AR-11 since I moved after filing N-400

12. Tax return for the past five years. However, I don't have the certified copy. Shall I try to get it online. I am afraid that I may not have enough time.

The following I don't have and is recommended by some people.

13. Selective service letter: I came here before 26 and was on non-immigrant visa (F-1, H-1B) until the GC. By the time I got GC, I was way over 26. I did not register with selective service anyway. Shall I try to get a letter from them?
14. Birth certificate: I submitted the copy when I applied GC. Currently, I have some difficulty finding it. Is it absolutely necessary?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Dear South_Nj,
Following are the items that you Most definitely want to take with you:
1. Interview Letter
2. Green card
3. Passport
4. Traffic citation report or proof that pay the tickets
6. Driver license
10. Utility bill to prove my residence
11. Copy of AR-11 since I moved after filing N-400
12. Tax return for the past five years.

Have you changed your jobs since your green card ? IF yes you also may want to consider taking any documentation on the jobs that you have had in last few years. Such as Offer Letters pay stubs , W2 etc.

How long did you stay with the company that sponsored your GC? you may want to take some documentation in regards to that effect.

Documents not necessary unless you had forgotten to send it with your application.
5. 4 identical passport size photos

Documents not necessary, but wouldnt harm if you had them:
7. Marriage certificate although the green card is based on employment
8. Social security card
9. My most recent paystub for my employment status

You dont need certified copy for tax returns. Remember you are under oath so any and every document that you are showing to USCIS is considered a valid or authentic document.

You do not need the Selective Service Letter based on your description. You turned 26 before you were a Permanent Resident and hence you do not need the SS Letter.

You also do not need the Birth Certificate. If yo have it, take it, otherwise you have proven your Birth Date to USCIS before so it is not necessary.

Again, just FYI, documents that may be requested greatly depend on the District Office and the Immigration Officer. Traditionally, nothing else is required unless you have a special case which may require some other documents.
it would also help to have a copy of these documents so if the IO wants to keep a copy, then they have it witht them.

hope it helps,

Take Care and Good Luck.

N-400 SNA. Thank you very much for your response.

I changed the job 8 months after I got GC. I have stayed there since then, I may have difficulty to find the offer letter. However, I still have the paystub for my last company since I got my GC. Hope this will help.

You are in good shape. These are some other things to think about in addition to the above two posts. Overkill .... yes but it increases your level of comfort.

1. Letter outlining any updates to N-400 since original filing
2. Application to preserve residency (N-470) if ever filed
3. Reentry Permit/s (if any)
4. All old passports (important if you have been in and out of the US a lot since permanent residency)
5. Driver’s License
6. Birth Certificate. Desirable but not essential.
7. Marriage Certificate (if married and even if applying under the 5 year rule)
8. Tax transcripts. Probably worth phoning the IRS to expedite. They usually oblige.
9. Pencil
10. Black ball-point pen

Best of luck. See other posts on interview experiences. They help.

The instruction letter has document check list of docs. Check the criteria that you fall under and bring the docs. specified for you

I would look at these posts and the "Sticky" posts (very useful) and take ALL documents that might be useful, Not only those listed on the instruction letter. The letter does not mention tax transcripts, court documents, old passports etc etc but these and other things have all been asked for by various IOs.

The good news is that if they ask for something that you do not have, its not the end of the world. They do give you an opportunity to provide it later but it will introduce delays in the process.

I guess I should be deleting all of my postings from a sticky thread in a few days as they have become useless now compared to info on this thread...lol

In particular, go through your application. Any question where you answered "yes" (where the safe answer was "no", or vice-versa) and anything where you think that there might be a discussion, bring some documents.

Other that factual changes (you took an extra trip, etc), don't bring up anything unless the IO asks. Keep all of your extra docs in a folder he/she can't see into.

omg.. you want to pack your entire house and take it with you for the interview?

If you can get that selective services letter, I'd recommend you do so, because although you were not required to register, you'll probably have to prove to the IO that you were never out of status between arriving in the US on an F1 and the time when you got your GC. (If you had gone out of status while under 26yrs, you would have been required to register with SSA).

I'll agree its a small possibility of needing it, but all it takes is a picky IO and you find your case getting delayed by the RFE process.
