Equally frustrated
I am also frustrated like you guys.
The entire greencard process sucks.
The company I work for, applied for my labor certification in
early 1998 thru the traditional labor certification (non RIR) process. INS took 3 1/2 years to approve my labor. Shortly, thereafter, I140 was approved and I filed I485 in dec. 2001 (RD: 12/31/01).
Now, I am in the never ending waiting mode (limbo or whatever you want to call it).
I have been in this country for almost 10 years now. After graduating in chemical engineering from IIT, Bombay, I came here to pursue graduate studies in chemical engineering and completed MS in chemical engineering. There was job shortage in chemical engineering and I was not able to find a suitable
job.
But, there were lot of jobs in computer science, So I pursued graduate studies in computer science from a very reputed univeristy and completed masters degree in computer science as well.
I got a good job in computer science field after my graduate studies and my job was going fine for 6 years until last year when the business climate started becoming very unfavorable.
My company has laid off thousands of people and somehow, one way or the other, I managed to survive until now. But now I am feeling that my days are numbered in the company and the axe is going to fall on me anytime.
So, I am caught up in a layoff situation and my I485 is not moving at all.
The entire greencard process is crap. God know, when INS will relieve us of our miseries.
I have put so much efforts and time in my education and work and it is indeed very frustrating to realize that I am not getting anywhere in my career. In the meantime, I had to pass several opportunities that could have potentially lifted my not so meaningful a career.
Guys, I am also seriously thinking whether it is worth living here.
