Hi All,

Can anybody has the experience of the following:

(1) USA university research /academic job with H1B visa? My question is: what type job I should apply for (Scientific Officer/Research Officer or some other), for which University can sponsor H1B visa for me?

(2) I am from India & I am in a situation to apply in a suitable contract post in US university (I have some discussion with a Professor in US university) but he suggested me to come with H1B visa, not on J1 visa. So I am interested to know what sort of post I should apply in US university so that I can get H1B visa from India....!!

(3) What is H1B (academic) visa? What is the difference between H1B visa & H1B (academic) visa?

If anybody has some info, please write me back.

Thanks.

A university has to first offer you a job, then file petition for your H1B status. The job has to meet certain requirements, go to uscis.gov and search for "H-1B Specialty Occupations"

Once petition is approved, you go to a US consulate and get a visa to travel to US. Ask your professor if he can get his university to start the H1B process.

H1B for a job at a university is not subject to the annual quota, unlike an H1B for a regular company.
