I work for a multinational company and they are requesting me to be out of the country for 12 months. i am a green card holder as AS6 issued in 04/2005.
someone told me that i can only be out of the country 6months+1 day. please help me.

you need to file for 2 application, one for RP TRAVEL DOCUMENT valid for 2 years,

the second applicaton is for preserve of residence, so even if you stayed outside the USA more than one year, you will not going to break the 5 years continuous to apply for naturalization

I thought if you actually worked for a US based multinational company, you would be exempted from these rules. I think it worth checking it out; perhaps, one of our forum members can validate these rules.

Exactly. Take the advice from Mr Smith. You can file for Reentry Permit if you're going to be absent for more than 6 months. You can actually request an expedite RP application if you have proof from your company i.e a letter stating your business travel and the duration. It will take about two weeks to process. Another wise thing to do is file to preserve your residency status, so that you'll not break the 5 years continuity mandated presence.

My best advice is to speak to a good legal counsel that can help you with your situation. If you have a good one, then you need not to worry about doing it yourself.

thanks everybody. i only will need a N-470 to preserve my perm residence, i dont need a travel document because i have my national passaport and works fine.

Multinational company? Then check with the legal staff of the company.
