What Questions are asked in the interview? Questions for DV 2006-2008 Winners

Hello Everyone,

Two of my friends won DV 2009 from Europe with 3000k and 7000k series number.
Numbers are good and they have already sent their paperwork to KCC.
What questions might come up during the interview which I anticipate for them sometime in October / November 2009.
I have won DV 98 and it looks like process has changed a little bit.
I was asked what I am going to do in the United States and how I am going to support myself. Everything else was just medical verification and document verification.

Thanks in advance,

How about taking your time and look at the other threads before starting a new one? If you would have done that you have seen this one (which was probably on the very first page): http://boards.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=265369

Hey, how about providing the real advice to my question.
Do you think I would have overlooked this thread which you and others refer over and over for every question visitors ask.
I have looked at this link and it does not cover everything that I have in mind.
So, let other people respond to my question before posting your comments.

You want to know what questions will be asked during the interview. I, and many others, have described our interview experience in that thread so that people have it easier to find answers to exactly your question. Of course it has a lot of "congratulations", etc. statements in there, but it's not that hard to find the important parts.
But if I understand you correctly, you're too lazy to read through that thread so you want people to answer the same thing again in your thread. I'm not gonna do that but I know that there are always people in the forum who don't mind "handfeeding".

Hello!!! This forum is about people helping each other. Not pointing fingers and trying to be smart like you are doing.
So, MOVE ON and let other more helpful forum members reply as you are not being helpful at all.
Otherwise you are just wasting my time.

It was absolutly the same, and you should know that the most important thing is to prepare your paperwork, insted to think about the interview.
You could answer all the questions whitout thinking 1 sec, but if you miss some doc., like police cert., prove of support, etc. you should forget the visa (at least till you provide the missing doc).
So since your friends have low case num. they should just follow the rules; and start collecting docs.
From which country are your friends?

Thank you for your information.
As far I know they have already sent their 230 and 122 and photos to KCC.
One of my friends is from Russia, other one is from Slovakia.
I have seen conflicting responses as far as police certificates: can they get one now do they need to wait till interview letter arrives?
I think Slovakia is fine but in Russia it takes a while to get one as far as my buddy told me.
Although, some forum members mentioned that if you do not put address in USA, then that question will pop up during the interview. I guess SOS needs to have some address to send GC. That has changed since 1990s as it was not mandatory to have address at that time.
I want to help them and they can give my home address in Washington DC but I am not sure whether having the same address for two applicants might mess them up.

police certificate not older than 6 months
address they need one ( i think its not problem that both of them to give yours)

Thanks for your helpful info.
One of them gave my address on his application but other one did not just in case. He put N/A on address side.
I wil have the other one give my address during the interview.
I am fine with SOS or USCIS contacting me as I know those individuals pretty well.
Do they need affidavit of support from me or employment letter from perspective employer even if both of them will show bank accounts in their name with over 100k?
They sent me a copy of their apps and I see that there is statement there about "public charge"?
Both of them are professionals with advanced degree and as such they should not have any problem finding jobs in their occupations here in nations capital.
I will house them until they find jobs and secure their own place.

It might be a good idea to try to find out soon how long the police certificates will take, in some countries you have it within 2weeks, in others it takes several months. Once your friends have this information, they can calculate, when they should apply for them. I have also read that the certificates are typically valid for 6months.
I also agree with asd22 about the address: It doesn't matter if several applicants use the same address. But I've heard from others in a forum that KCC sent their forms back with the request to provide a U.S. mailing address.

Thanks for your feedback.
I wil ask them to start police certificate quest now as both of them lived in different parts of their countries and it might make things more complicated.
I hope that there will be no problems for both of them to give my address.
I think I can easiely accomodate both of them as I live in single family house and my family is small and there are plenty of space for temperary guests.
I am also willing to give them affidavit of support if one needed. Hopefully with their past work experience and assets they will not need one from me.

If they use your address, this doesn't mean that they actually have to live there. This address will just be used to mail their greencards.

That's true.
However, based on my experience with SOS and USCIS you never know what to expect from them. sometimes they do not do any checking; at other times they check everything going back to your ancestors. (security clearance for fed jobs is the primary example)
If one lives in small efficiency apartment and gets unemployment compensation and the same time invites someone from overseas to come over and stay it might sound odd....
If they just need address for GC delivery than that's excellent. I guess story is different if someone puts US address and name for initial stay in US.

Yeah, this address is really just for mailing gc, nothing else (your friends could also just rent a mailbox). It is different if you decide to fill out an affidavit of support.

Is affidavit required for everyone regardless of assets (over 100k), background information (extensive work experience in high demand jobs/advanced degree) ?

No, the affidavit of support is only necessary, if the winner doesn't have enough money himself (lets say less than 10k), and no job offer.
