RFE is Request for Evidence. This will be done onlye if USCIS need more information like medical, Pay / W2 or birth certificate or marriage certificate.
Whereas Fingerprinting is different it is done to verify you as an individual. FBI can be done anytime while your case is under process or review.
AOS /I485 is totally depending on the nature of the application, I am not sure whether you applied as EB1 /2 /3

EB3...I485/I140 filed on March 2003, I140 approved on January 2004, Processing Date in VSC is way beyond March 03' now and I have no clue what's going on. They received my RFE (which was I-508...I was told this is almost mandatory with E1) on October 6 2004 ...last letter from them in the end of December 2004 said it's waiting security checks...I am absolutely, totally annoyed. I just can't believe how such thing can simply get stuck without no one paying with his/her head for that. It is absolutely ridiculous.
