I think there was only 2 major items for Employment based category in the previous CIR bill (Don't know what's there in the latest CIR/STRIVE Act)
1. Not to count the dependents for Visa #'s
2. Recapture 290,000 unused visas
If only item 1 is passed then there won't be any big relief to EB3/2 but if item 2 is passed then all countries including India may become current (depends if all visa are alloted in one go or if it is phased in # of years)
BTW, let say if the bill passes and the President signs the bill in Aug 2007, when will this take effect at USCIS/DOL. In Sept 2007 itself?
Do not forget that CIS will issue the visas after issuing them to the 20+ million illegals
I don't think this is true. I would even say that will make us getting GC faster. Because they have to clear the queue. Keep the fingers crossed.
You have not read Mr. Kennedy's statements.
He wants to put those 20 - 25 millions in the queue ahead of us.

I think that it means even if their PDs are after us, there will still have to be a lot of paperwork issuing temporary visas to all of them. But if those illegals apply their PD will be after us right? SO they will be added to the end of the queue?

so the already backlogged DOL and CIS will be bogged down even more.
correct me if I'm wrong, andy garcia
The article says:
"Illegal immigrants would be eligible for legalization if they arrived in the U.S. before June 1, 2006. They would have to pay a $2,000 fine and back taxes, and pass background and security checks. If after six years they have learned English and civics, kept a clean record, and the head of household has left and reentered the U.S. legally, they could become legal permanent residents, a step toward citizenship."
What about legals who have been here for 6+ years before 2006, and kept waiting thru no fault of ours?
Why can't we get immediate citizenship??
we have to be satisfied with some small increase in visa numbers! forget about the endless waits in DOL and CIS and FBI name checks!!
and how many thousands of dollars have we spent on these govt agencies? at least 5 times $2000 fine.
How unfair is this bill?!
seems like Bill Gates hearing was all in vain
We could have become illegal, not wasted money on attorneys, changed employers whenever we wished, had our spouses work, and we would be in the same boat as we are today
Item 1 would make a big difference, because that would effectively double the number of EB green cards available. Right now with dependents being counted, only about 50,000-70,000 actual workers can be approved per year; the rest of the 140,000 is taken up by spouses and children.I think there was only 2 major items for Employment based category in the previous CIR bill (Don't know what's there in the latest CIR/STRIVE Act)

Hi there,
....... Since all politicians want is to gain votes and benefit from this, they went ahead and managed to let illegals apply for 245(i) following a "queue". Yes, eventually illegals got in the queue and hurt many of us.
........ Moreover, how can USCIS screen documents for 20 million applicants anyway? Based on the number of people I see arriving every week in my neighborhood church, I'd say that I believe that there are definitely more than 20 million here.
