what is normal time frame to respond for 485 RFE\'s? Please help

In the event of a 485 RFE (for employment letter, pay stubs, w-2 forms) what is the normal time frame that INS requires us to answer. Do they give time in days or weeks or months? Someone told me they would give atleast 2 months to respond.

In my case, the RFE had the date by which the response was to be submitted. My RFE was issued on 4/09/01 and a response was demanded by 7/30/01.
