What is IBIS check?

My RD is Nov 4, 2002. I got my FP2 done on July 8, 2004. According to CIS, my case has been delayed due to security checks. I wanted to understand what it means. I have read in this forum about name checks. My laweyers are telling me that it might be the IBIS check. Is name check the same as IBIS? I have not read discussion about the IBIS check on this forum.

Thanks for the thread. It still does not answer my question. Maybe I should ask it another way. If USCIS says that the security check is causing delay, how do we know which of the following is the cause for the hold up:
1. FP (I guess, one can call FBI and find this one out)
2. FBI Name check
3. IBIS check

I see a lot of discussion on this forum on FBI name check causing delay, but have not read any thread that discusses IBIS check as the cause of the delay. Why is that so?
 
Coz IBIS thread takes less time is being done many times again and again..you can search on IBIS on this forum to get more info

That does not mean that IBIS check is pending. Dude you are crapping now ..

Actually you should ask the officer what is pending. Call them again and ask them if FBI name check is pending or IBIS is pending. you must know the status of your FP. My wifes case is pending and she called USCIS today. She was also given the same answer. She asked the lady what specifically is pending and the lady told her Name check.
