I'm very confused by the term priority date for N-400. Is it the date I received my green card + 5 yrs? Is it the date INS recognize my n-400 application? Is it something else? What is the significance of this date?

My application was received on 10/03/06 (as per the USPS tracking web site). I haven't received any receipt notice, my check hasn't cashed yet. is this common?

I'm located in Boston and I sent my application to Vermont

Thanks

It is the date your application was recieved. If your date is correct, something is not right. I would suggest you make an infopass appointment right away. They may have lost your file or sent your notices to the wrong address. Have you moved at all?

I assume you mean that you sent your application on October 3, 2007, not 2006 as you put in your message. If it is 2007, then it is normal, USCIS has a high number of applications to process and they have big delays. If you really mean 2006 then there is something really screwed up. My bet is that you made a typo and meant that you sent your applicatin a few weeks ago. Am I right.

Priority date is the date when USCIS acknoledges the receipt of your application.

My 2 cents.

Very often they are taking more than a month to provide a receipt and cash the checks, due to the recent spike in applications for citizenship and green cards.

Hi,
I send my N400 of 12 aug 2008 to vermount. I live in s.jersey so my interview office will probably be Mt. Laurel.

I got a letter from USCIS dated 15th Aug 2008 which confirm they reciept application and said i should expect whole process to take 365 days.
I recd this letter on 23rd August 2008 and my check was cashed on 19th augest 2008.

Can any body tell me whats the next step and how long does it take for the whole process also what is a pioroty date?
