Hi friends,
I have set appt. to visa consulate mumbai on feb, 2005.

I have one question:
I read in forum that alongwith W2, 1040 NR is also required [consulate officer may ask]

I am wondering, What is that 1040 NR form. I dont have such form [i have only w2]. and is there any way to get such form now ????

thank you all, your little help is always valuable.

Regarding 1040 NR

Hi NANC, How do you have a W2? And for which Year? Depending upon which US state you are working in and which year you have W2 for you might need to present 1040 or 1040 NR. For example if you have W2 for 2003 and working in Massachussetts - you will obviously would have filed 1040 or 1040 NR with IRS for you taxes for 2003. As per my experience, normally in US Embassy they do not ask for 1040 (and sometimes not even W2s) - it all depends upon the luck factor. The difference between 1040 and 1040 NR is that NR is for a non-resident - a person who has'nt been living in a particular state for more than 180 days (or something). I am not an expert - but just another guy who or my friends have underwent similar kind of experiences in the past. So hopefully this information might help you.

Aakash,
Thank you for your reply.

You are right that its a luck factor in us embassy.
I have filed W2 for 2003. I also filled up one form for that. [I guess, I filled 1040EZ]. I filled it myself with help of friend.
In return, I didnt got nothing from IRS any kind of form/reciet/approval.
{ofcourse, I got check,, ha ha...}

so, shoul I get another blank form and fill it up ???

thank you,

Hi NANC - Regarding 1040EZ

Here is what happens - Irrespective fo what you file with IRS - whether it is 1040/1040NR/1040EZ - you should always make sure that you get a photostat copy of the form that you filled up before you send it to IRS - It is this photostat what they would ask for (if they do by any chance) in US Embassy. There is no original or anything - it is just a photostat copy of the form you originally sent to IRS - Incase you never took the photostat copy - I will suggest you to somehow get a blank 2003 1040 EZ form - refill it with the same figures - the way you did it in 2003 - get a photostat copy of it - and that should do the trick. Merry Christmas.

Hi NANC

I missed out the message from Alren - probably the method he has suggested is the best option for you - if you wan't to play safe. Thanks.

If you do not have the exact figures for the method recommeded by Aakash, then U can put it from the transcript U get from IRS.

thank you

Friends, thank you for your kind help.

http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

If you are in US you can get the copy by calling (800) 829-1040. If you want they will fax immediately.

Keep the W2 while calling them. They may ask your SSN and taxable income for the year in question.
