What If the political situation has been changed in your COP?

What if the political situation has changed in your country of prosecution? What if there is a new democratic government with close ties to U.S? Will it be safe to tell an Officer during the Citizenship interview that the reason you visited the COP (GC+NP) is because the political situation has changed and there is no fear of prosecution anymore? Instead of lying and using some lame excuses like “mother is sick back home”, wouldn’t it be better to tell the truth? I am sure Officers are not dumb and they must have heard that “sick” excuse plenty of times.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
