Hello,
I am new to this forum and already very worried.
My CN will be current in January, which is way earlier than i expected.
I just started gathering my police certificates 3 weeks ago.

As i lived in the US before i will also need one from there. I am currently living in Europe and the only way to obtain a police certificate from the US is by sending an application with my finger prints to the FBI. Unfortunately they have an 8-10 weeks processing time.
So now i also just found out, that they havent even received my letter yet, but i hope they get it within the next days. anyway i am afraid i wont get my certificate before my consular interview.

I have all my other documents ready and all police certificates from other countries i lived in.
So what happens, if i dont have this US police certificate at the interview? Can i just bring it at a later time, and they will issue me the GC later?

And another question: When i get the 2nd letter from KCC will i already have a fixed date for the interview or can i choose a prefered day?
Would it be possible to postpone the interview?

I hope someone can help me :(
Thanks

You can postpone yoru interview but you risk that they will be out of visa numbers, although January isn't likely that they will be out...but you are the one taking a chance and USCIS/KCC don't care about any induvidual since they don't care if person A or person B get's the GC, for them every one is a #.

IMO, Having to get the police report/cerificate from the US might be the least of your worries since the USA has a good system that can be checked out.

As long as you have all other papers ready you shouldn't worry too much. They won't grant you the GC if you don't have all the proof but maybe they will do the interview and let you know if you are approved or denied when the police certificate will be arriving at their office, which might take some weeks but if I were you I would just go and have the interview as scheduled...

there was information on the net about consular processing and reason for Immigrant Visa Refusal. on the missing document section

Missing Documents/Public Charge
If the immigrant visa is denied because of missing documents (under section 221(g)), you can get that document and go back to the consulate again. If you were refused under section 212(a)(4) because the consulate determined that you would be a public charge in the United States, you can reappear again with new evidence. This is really not a rejection. e.g., in US consulate in Mumbai, you may return with new information and request reconsideration on any business day at 7:45 AM, except for the second and last Friday of the month and holidays.

As far as I know they do NOT reject you becuase you don't provide them with Police cert. and most probably they wait until you provide the Police cert.

The interview date is fixed but you may contact the embassy and defer it to another date.

Hope these help.

"Police certificates are required for each visa applicant aged 16 years or older.
The table below shows how many police certificates are required based on
where each applicant lives and has lived previously. Present and former
residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates
covering their residence in the U.S."

Thanks for sharing that Kiefar, I was thinking that the police reports are required for any place where you lived for over 6 months. The link you provided shows that if it is not your native country then you should have lived more than 12 months to get a police report.

Good luck alexiasi
