What happens to old H1 if H1 transfer is denied?

Hi,

If a company B applies for H1 transfer of an employee, who is working for company A (which is the current H1 holder), and if the transfer is denied, what happens to the older H1?

Does it become invalid and the employee's status itself become invalid? Or the old H1 remains intact and one can continue working for A?

----------------Company A H1 remains valid till H1 approval date (if A has not revoked H1 by writing to USCIS.
Does it become invalid and the employee's status itself become invalid? Or the old H1 remains intact and one can continue working for A?
--------------------one can continue working for A(if A has not revoked H1 by writing to USCIS) and can also file H1 extension if eligible.
