What happens to folks who have already been interviewed due to Retrogressing back 98!

Folks,
Iam in the same boat with a little twist. Iam EB3, but when i had my interview, officer stamped me for I-551, temporary permanent resident. During the interview when i told him iam EB3, he said it doesn't matter and i can goto SSN office to get a new social security card. I went to the SSN office, a month after the interview the status still showed H1-B. Didn't receive any welcome letter or card in the mail. When i called the 1-800 number they said my file is still at Newark local office.
I took an infopass appointment and went to newark local office, they were not of any help. They said for some people it will take longer for the card to arrive(If we take infopass, we goto the 3rd floor, interview happens in 13th floor). I tried to goto the place where we had the interview, but was turned away as i didn't had an appointment.
Question is i don't know what my status is.. I don't know if a visa number was assigned to my case..

My understanding is even in EB3, they have further sub-categories. If you google, or search immigration sites/forums - you would know. Most of us fall under E36 (Skilled - with experience) or E37 (professional degree). When I went to interview in September '05 at Hartford office, I was told by the officer that they don't have visa numbers available for E36, but they do have visa numbers available for E37. So I am guessing, you fall under E37 (with your computer science degree?? - do you have computer science degree?).
Yes, I learn from experience from others, that local office takes long time (approx 3-4 weeks) to transfer the cases to regional office and if you call the national number, it is of no use mostly. So wait little more. Well, you didn't mention any dates.

patpat and akmount, I thought I will put some input in this. Your EAC number for 485 will still show that your file is still in Hartford/Newark and that number is not valid anymore for your status after your transfer. So when you call the national number they will say that they do not have any more info than what it says in your online status . As far as I know, if you have that 551 stamp that stamping requires an approval from the national visa number office who is counting in real time that how many numbers are left. Your officer would not have stamped you unless he/she got an approval from the national visa number office (that is what our lawyer said). This office fax your local office with an approval and that approval goes to your file to VSC. Then VSC generates another EAC number for you. For me it started with EAC05.....For normal VSC approval (without transfer) the I-485 EAC # comes in your card. For us, it will be this new EAC # that will be in the card.
For us, we had to wait 3.5 hours for stamping as the approval did not come in time. Then the officer showed me the approval and stamped the passport. So in normal scenario, the officer will not stamp without approval from national visa office.

patpat, as I said earlier, do not worry! I know that you will definitely worry for your case. I know people in bigger offices like boston, newark and new york where people have to wait for 6 months to get the card. Ask people in Newark thread how long it took for them to get welcome notices. That may give you some answer. I know people personally who did not get cards having interviewed months before me.
Also, national number 1-800- won't be able to help you as your EAC # is not valid anymore. It still shows for me that my case is in hartford since last november. If you want, go to the local office again and ask them where is your file now. They are the best people to answer your question. For me, they could tell me when my file came to hartford, when they opened it, if it is reviewed etc etc.

How long is the finger print valid (10 fingers)?
I would like to know as how long the finger prints are valid (10 fingers) that are taken during interviews? Is it 2 yrs, I am assuming its 2 yrs from the day we give the 10 fingers. Correct me if I am missing anything. Thanks

You are right about stamping passport. I do not need to go for passport stamping since I have the card. The passport stamping is given for temporary basis until your physical card come but if you have the card then they will not stamp it.
