what happens to B1 visa

hi frnds,
I have read information abt B1 visa conversion to F1 status in the forums. thanks for the precious information. I still have some queries.
1)what happens to B1 visa if F1 status change is rejected? I hv B1/B2 visa valid till next year. I plan to visit US in a month & try to convert my visa to F1 status. I'm concerned that if my F1 status is rejected will it affect my B1/B2 visa extension since it will expire july 2010.

2)shd I renew my B1/B2 visa before coming to US?& still if f1 status is rejected willl my B1/B2 visa be valid which will be for 10 years.

You may not generally do a COS to F1 from B1/B2. Apply from your home country; the requirements are the same. Why do you not want to apply in the proper way?
