what happens after obtaining the immigrant visa

Hello there everybody!
My brother has filed an I-130 petition based on his marriage to a US citizen. His USCIS petition got approved, and NVC sent his wife the package and the documents needed, and finally a visa number became available to him. Yesterday he had an interview with the American Embassy, and they approved his case and issued him an immigrant visa! My question is , what else does he have to do once he comes to the US? Does he have to file another petition?
Does he get a conditional Permanent residency or 10-residency?
Please , i hope to hear from you soon.
thank you very much.

I am not sure if the process has recently changed but I will tell you what my parents went through.

During the interview, the officer must have given him a sealed envelope along with an approval letter. He can use his passport and the approval letter to get the ticket to fly to US. At the immigration check point in the US, the officer will open the sealed envelope and make your brother sign some paper work. Make sure your brother knows the address where he would be staying because he will be asked about this address. The green card should arrive at the address he mentions to the immigration officer in about 3 months.

Again, this is what happened to my parents and their experience was post 9/11. Things may have changed since. Maybe someone else can confirm if the process is still the same or not.

Thanks

Eric

thank you eric,
yes he did a sealed envelope and told not to open it and dand it to the imigration officer at the point of entry. My brother got the IR1 visa, which is for immediate relative, does that mean that his green card will be for 10 years or conditional?
thank you again

Has two years passed since your wedding?

If immigrant visa was granted less than two years after the date of the marriage then a two year conditional green card will be issued. If two years passed before the visa was issued then a ten year green card will be given.

Yes he has been married for five years before granted the visa.
