What exactly is an I-485 ???

Hi all, sorry about this silly question.

I am on an EB-1 visa (L-1A)
Filed I-140 and I-485 concurrently
I-140 approved 21st June 2006.
Have approved EAD and Ap and have taken all relavent fingerprints and bio metrics.
I am told I am now I-485 pending.
What exactly does this mean?
I was told that if my I-140 petition was approved, then my change of status application has been approved
What exactly does this mean?

------------------------- it means your I-485 is pending for approval, once it gets approved your GC process will be over and you will get the Card(GC)

What exactly does this mean?
----------- who told you above? if your I-140 is approved it simply means your immigration petition I-140 is approved. it has nothing to do with change of status. your status is AOS PENDING
