Hello,

I filed for I-485 status adjustment (employment based) at Nebraska Service Center in May' 2001 (you read the year right :( ). As of today, my I-485 is not approved. We filed 2 status inquiries with out any luck. Finally on the 1st of November' 2003, we contacted the USCIS (INS) through American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Liaison.

Yesterday, we got a response from Liaison stating that "As of 12/2/03 the case is with an officer for review. Security checks appear complete. Please allow another 30 days to hear from the NSC before submitting another inquiry or request". Can somebody tell me what that means? Can I hope to get my approval soon? If not, does anybody have an idea how long will it take for them to approve my green card after security checks are complete?? Please reply!! Thanks

FYI: Country of origin - India; EB2 category.

It means

that all security checks have been completed and we have goofed off by not approving your case. To cover our a$$ we are using the word "appear" so that we may retract at a later date.

Going by the level of follow up done on your case an approval seems to be right around the corner. Monday, maybe..;)

All the best and hang on..

AILA liaison

grandhirk,
Thank you for your posting. I appreciate the tenacity you have
shown to hang in there. Can you let us know what is this AILA
liasion that you contacted and worked with. Several of us may have to go through a similar route.

Thank you

AILA liaison is the American Immigration Lawyers Association liaison service. You have to contact your immigration lawyer, who in turn will contact his association (AILA). AILA has liaison officers assigned to each service center. Once your lawyer decides that your case requires some serious attention, he will forward your info to AILA liaison. Once AILA files inquiry, the INS is supposed to respond with in 30 days. Hope that helps.

You got to consider LUCKY!!!

I got an interview a week ago but I still don't have my passport stamped. WHY?

Tha'ts because my name isn't cleared( Security check is not completed). So all you have to do is to wait another 30 days for an interview date.

If your security check is not cleared yet, it may take more than 6 months even after your long awaited interview or approval, to get your passport stamped.

Consider it lucky. There is nothing to complain about, compared to many many others.

I am not complaining

about this but just wanted some information. I dont know when you filed yous I-485 status adjustment. But if you saw my post clearly, I filed mine in May 2001 (yes 2001). So I have been waiting for green card approval for more than 2.5 years. What about you? When did you file yours? Do you consider waiting for 2.5 years lucky?? I saw people posting on this forum worried even when they filed their I 485 status adjustment in 2002. So, shouldn't I be worried??

What do you mean, "..filed 485-I?"

When did you receive your work permit?-Do you know when is your receit date or notice date?

When is your "first" finger print?

You also said in your post that, I have nothing to complain about when compared to others. I have been pouring through the archives and I haven't come across anybody whose case took as much time as mine. May be I missed it, but realize that the current processing time in Nebraska is August 27, 2001 and I filed my I - 485 status adjustment in May' 2001. So,yeah I have a lot to complain about.

My reciept date is May 21' 2001, my first fingerprints in June 2001, second fingerprinting in Dec 2002. I got my EAD in August 2001 (Of course I renewed it already 3 times now)

YOU GOT TO COMPLAIN!

I'm sorry to misunderstand you. I thought you first filed your document in 2001 but obviously not.

But since your security check is(appears to be) completed, you will soon get an approval letter or interview date.

I believe maximun another 8 months will get you your GC.

Best luck.
