What documents needed for H1 transfer?

Folks,
I am filing for my H1 this year, and am doing some look-ahead planning.
Can someone tell me what documents are needed for filing for H1 transfer from employer A to employer B? Is there anything I need from employer A? I believe the H1 approval notice I797 comes in two parts - do I need both parts to file for transfer? What if employer has retained my portion of I797 with himself? Thats not legal, right?

When you apply your new h1 with A, what ever the documents you produced will be the documents required for the transfer too plus
Is there anything I need from employer A? 2/3 Pay stubs I believe the H1 approval notice I797 comes in two parts - do I need both parts to file for transfer?
A photo copy is suffice with approval notice number WAC# or LIN #etc

What if employer has retained my portion of I797 with himself? Thats not legal, right?

Couple of things -

1)

For transferring H-1B visa, the future employer has to file the Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Workers. There is no need for the job seeker to wait until petition is approved. Once the petition is approved, the future employer is sent a notice of approval, Form I-797

So, lets say i want to switch the job from company A to company B. Now, when company B files for a H1 transfer, as soon as they receive a conformation from INS that the I-129 request is received, i can notify my company A? is this the common practice whenever someone goes through H1 transfer ? and is this consider pretty safe ?

I heard from a perspective employer that they will need a document from my present employer indicating that they do not have any objections on the transfer. is this true? seems to be unreal...
