What do I lose?

I am happy to have US Citizenship but I regret to renunciate my Indian Citizenship. I feel sad to give it up. Wish India had Dual Citizenship like many other countries. But what am I losing except following,

- I cannot buy an agricultural land in India (which I never did, never will or anyone of my family members in India have any agricultural land)
- I cannot vote and become a political leader (which I never did, never will or anyone of my family members in India are affiliated with any party)

What am I missing here?

You cannot work in any government entity, state or central.

You cannot visit certain parts of North East India or other border areas without permission.

However you continue to have all financial and educational benefits of an NRI (you can operate NRI accounts, with PIO or OCI kids can get admitted into most colleges under NRI quota).

Inner Line Permits, Protected Area Permits, and Restricted Area Permits (one or the other) are needed by Indians and foreigners alike, often. Even if you're not an Indian citizen, chances are that you can continue to be considered an Indian when you ask for these items domestically (using your PAN card) if you so choose. You're still most likely entitled to the local tariffs for attractions and the like.

Nothing much to lose....

Thanks.
I never had a Government job while in India and 99 out of 100, the chances are I will work for private company if in India. Also, I have never visited border areas. I recently visited Uttarkhand border area with Chin and was told that even Indians need permission to be in that area as it is patrolled by ITBPF (Indian Tibet Border Patrol Force)
So I guess I have lot less to lose. It almost like but not exactly a Dual Citizenship.

With OCI you can return to India and live there forever just like any other Indian citizen.

The only flip side to obtaining US citizenship is that you are required to file a US tax return no matter where you live. You are also expected to pay US taxes on income earned worldwide.

Taxes

Yes, US Tax Return needs to be filed until you remain US Citizen but if the money is earned outside US then there are exemptions in terms of amount that is taxed. First $95,100/ is exempted and excluded as income. I know lot of US Citizens that worked in tax free countries like Saudi Arabia and were not taxed in either country. You still file Tax Return but your taxable income is zero if less than $95k.
