What are the different copies of the AP for? I remember hearing somewhere that you should get 3 copies. I have two. Presumably I need to take both with me when I travel? Sorry if this is answered elsewhere in the forum or by USCIS.

I got 3 copies. Do I have carry all of these 3. I want keep 1 at my relative home. In case if I loose first two, my relatives can 3rd one send via mail.

I would like to have your openion.

See below quote from a different thread (posted May 2006). It seems from this that we should take two copies at least since they will keep one at the POE. I have only 2 copies. Should I have a third copy?

It is always advisable to keep all relavant documents to your application including EAD(if you have),485 receipt and ofcourse your AP (two originals) if you are travelling out for the first time. In my caes the first time I went out and came back in the officer took both stamped and gave me back one. I guess the other one goes in to their records. On all subsequent trips they just took copies of the one i had (after stamping it ofcourse).

My experience has been in LA airport and also Houston Intl.

If you have mentioned multiple entry while filing AP (I-131 form), then you will get 3 copies. While traveling 2 are enough, one will be retained by people at POE and the other original will be stamped and given back to you. The third original can be used when you travel once again (til validity date).
Hope this helps

I've used my AP several times and they have never retained one of the copies. Not to say they wouldn't next time. This is my experience.

Thanks that is helpful. I will take both copies I have with me and report back on what happens. Sounds like it's pretty random.

They stamped one copy only and gave me back both.

KLmasters,
I remember you recently went on vacation with AP. How was your experiences and also did they ask anything like Employement letter, pay stubs etc...
Let me know if i need to carry anything specific docs.
I am going on vacation next week for a month using AP.

Thanks

Hi,
As I said above the stamped one copy and gave me back both. I entered in Newark. Had to go to secondary inspection and waited about 20 minutes. I was not asked any questions or asked to provide any supporting documents (though I had several with me). The officer just looked at the AP, my passport and the white landing card I filled in for a few minutes, stamped one of the AP copies and my passport and gave everything back to me.
